The Ring der Wassersportvereine um die Porta Westfalica e. V. is a Minden-based association founded in 1951 to unite water-sports clubs and supporters in the Weser area around Porta Westfalica.
Its 17 member clubs work together to promote water sports, encourage youth participation and organize shared events for swimmers, canoeists and rowers. The association’s principal event is the Blaues Band der Weser, a major regional celebration that showcases water sports and brings competitors and visitors together along the river. Its programme combines sporting contests and demonstrations with community activities, including a cardboard-boat race, a boat parade and torch-lit swimming.
Participating boathouses also welcome visitors with food and opportunities to learn about club life. The event uses the Weser and its riverside promenade as venues, helping raise the profile of Minden as a city associated with water sports. The Ring coordinates the event with support from local partners and encourages people of different ages to experience sport, community and the natural surroundings
