Raptor Inventory Nest Survey (RINS) is a Utah-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding the state’s nesting birds of prey and their habitats. Since 2000, it has operated a long-term, volunteer-led citizen science project that gathers and manages information about the nesting ecology of eagles, falcons, hawks, osprey, and owls across Utah. Its mission is to support successful raptor nesting and habitat protection by providing reliable data for land managers and partner organizations making land-use and conservation decisions.
Each spring, approximately 200 volunteers travel throughout the state to locate and monitor nests, often in remote or rural areas. RINS provides opportunities to learn about raptors and participate in field monitoring, supported by seasonal spring, field-training, and GPS workshops. Over more than two decades, the project has built Utah’s largest comprehensive raptor database, containing more than 6,672 nests and 82,119 monitoring records. RINS also shares information about its work and offers ways for the public to volunteer, explore project resources, and make tax-deductible donations to support its conservation efforts.
