Their mission is to create a county-wide environment that promotes safe, healthy, and productive living through education, awareness, and community support. One of the core services offered by Rio Grande County Public Health is their immunization program.

They provide vaccinations for children and adults to prevent the spread of diseases and protect the community's health. They are also an approved MPX vaccine provider and administer the vaccine (Jynneos) after eligibility screening. In addition to immunizations, Rio Grande County Public Health offers various programs to support the well-being of the community.

They have the Baby & Me Tobacco Free Program, which helps pregnant individuals quit smoking and provides rewards for remaining smoke-free. They also collaborate with San Luis Valley Health and Cribs for Kids to ensure every baby in the San Luis Valley has a safe crib. Another important aspect of Rio Grande County Public Health's work is environmental health.

They monitor the quality of the food, air, and water to maintain conditions that promote good health. Whether it's through their immunization program, tobacco cessation initiatives, or environmental health efforts, Rio Grande County Public Health is committed to enhancing the overall health and well-being of the community they serve
