Rio Grande LNG is a large-scale liquefied natural gas export project developed by NextDecade Corporation at the Port of Brownsville in South Texas. Located on approximately 1,000 acres, the facility is planned to provide about 48 million tonnes per annum of LNG capacity across projects under construction or in development, with space available for up to 10 liquefaction trains. Its purpose is to process natural gas into liquefied natural gas for export, supporting access to energy markets around the world.
The site benefits from access to natural gas resources, an uncongested waterway, skilled local labor, and favorable geotechnical conditions. Phase 1, comprising Trains 1–3, is under construction, while Trains 4 and 5 are also advancing; further expansion, including Train 6 and an additional marine berth, is in development. First LNG is expected in 2027. At peak construction, the project anticipates about 7,500 construction and trade jobs, with roughly 700 long-term local jobs once operating.
