About Rio Neiva
Rio Neiva – Association for Environmental Defence is a nonprofit organisation founded in 1989 and based in Antas, in the municipality of Esposende, Portugal. Its work focuses on protecting the environment and conserving the Neiva River valley, while encouraging local communities to appreciate and care for their natural surroundings.
The association combines environmental education with nature-based recreation and community projects. Its activities include canoeing, cycling, walking, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, alongside equipment rental and guided opportunities to explore local trails and the Ecovia. Educational initiatives, workshops, campaigns and citizen-science projects help participants learn about biodiversity, sustainability and the ocean.
Rio Neiva also develops collaborative projects that connect nature, culture, arts and public spaces. Initiatives such as Bioneiva, No Meu Quintal, Rotas do Oceano and Verdecer engage residents, students and visitors in practical learning and environmental action. The organisation shares information about the region’s natural features and offers opportunities to participate as a member, join activities, or follow its programmes and news.
