RISE UP

RISE UP is a global network of more than 750 civil society and community-led organizations working to advance equitable, just and inclusive ocean governance. It brings together small-scale fishers, Indigenous Peoples, grassroots conservation groups and other organizations to connect frontline knowledge with local, national and international policy discussions. Its mission is to strengthen global policy and secure inclusive, sustainable outcomes for the ocean and the people who depend on it.

The network focuses on the implementation of the BBNJ Agreement, fair rights and participation for small-scale fisheries, opposition to deep-sea mining, and equitable ocean-based climate action. Its work combines collective action, coordinated policy engagement, and amplifying community voices and leadership in decision-making. RISE UP also shares advocacy resources, policy updates and community stories through reports, news, webinars, events and its monthly Navigator newsletter.

Membership is open to civil society organizations, community groups, foundations and research institutions. Members can take part in collective campaigns, access policy platforms and advocacy resources, and connect with a global community of ocean justice advocates.
