The Riverside Historical Society is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving Riverside, New Jersey’s history and sharing it with the community. Guided by the motto “Preserving the days of yesteryear while educating today,” the Society maintains a carefully curated collection of local artifacts, memories, and archival materials. Its work helps visitors explore the town’s past while encouraging curiosity and imagination across generations.
The Society welcomes visitors to its home at 3 Franklin Street, located in Riverside’s former 1930s train station. Guests can see the historic building, browse the archive, and connect with volunteers and fellow community members. Admission is free, and donations are appreciated to support visits and research. The Society is open Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on the second and last Saturday of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments may be requested for research assistance or donation drop-offs outside regular hours. Through its collection, visitor experiences, and community-focused educational efforts, the Society offers a welcoming resource for discovering Riverside’s heritage.
