RPCL-NORINCO International Power Limited (RNPL) is a joint venture company formed to implement the Patuakhali 1320 MW Coal Fired Thermal Power Plant project in Bangladesh. The main objective of this mega project is to provide electricity services to the entire country, including marginal areas. RPCL selected the site at Kalapara Upazilla in Patuakhali District after a thorough feasibility study and environmental impact assessment.

The project involves the construction of a jetty and coal handling facilities, power plant, township, transmission facilities, and road communication. The power plant will be operated using Ultra-Super Critical Technology with high-quality coal imported from Indonesia and Australia. The construction progress of the plant is impressive, with 60% of development already completed.

Temporary facilities are fully functional, and the main components are being manufactured in China. A residential township has been developed for displaced families, and a dedicated site office with all necessary amenities is in place. With approximately 2500 people working on the project, it is expected to be operational by the end of 2023.
