Rolling Start is a renowned brand that has been empowering and educating people with disabilities for over 40 years. Established in 1977 by individuals with spinal cord disabilities, Rolling Start started as a grassroots organization manned by passionate volunteers who were also persons with disabilities. Initially serving the Inland Empire Basin, their efforts led to significant achievements such as the installation of blue curbs in downtown San Bernardino and wheelchair lifts for local public transit buses.

In addition to their history of advocacy, Rolling Start offers a wide range of programs and services to support independent living. Their core services include Independent Living Skills Training, Information and Referral, Systems and Individual Advocacy, Peer Support, and Transition Services. These services encompass housing assistance, personal assistant referrals and training, transportation support, daily living skills training (such as budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and laundry), and assistive technology resources.

Rolling Start also emphasizes the importance of employment and provides assistance through their Job Club, helping individuals with disabilities prepare for and find meaningful employment opportunities. Covering San Bernardino, Inyo, and Mono Counties, Rolling Start currently serves approximately 1,500 consumers annually across a vast 33,000 square miles. Their mission is to enable individuals with disabilities to achieve the independent life they desire within their communities.
