ROOST.tools

ROOST (Robust Open Online Safety Tools) is a global, independent nonprofit and 501(c)(3) public charity building open-source online safety infrastructure as a public good. It works with organizations ranging from independent platforms to major technology companies to develop and maintain tools that help protect users at scale. ROOST aims to make safety systems open, shared, and auditable, rather than costly or opaque. Its tools support the safety lifecycle, from real-time detection and investigation to human review and enforcement.

The ROOST Safety Stack includes Osprey, a customizable, high-performance rules engine designed to detect and stop scaled abuse in real time; it is used by Bluesky, Discord, and Matrix. Coop is an open-source review console that helps safety teams assess complex policy violations across text, multimedia, and user profiles, with a focus on reviewer well-being. The ROOST Model Community works with AI partners to make battle-tested, inspectable safety models accessible for organizations to deploy. ROOST also invites organizations and individuals to use, contribute to, and support its tools and mission.
