Te Atatū Roosters Rugby League Club is an Auckland rugby league club with a long history of competition, community participation and distinctive black jerseys with a white V. The club’s name has an uncertain origin: Te Atatū means “the early morning,” while its Roosters identity may refer to the similarity between its jerseys and those of the former Eastern Suburbs Roosters. Known for travelling to play in New Zealand and Australia, Te Atatū was the first Auckland club to compete in Blenheim after Marlborough Rugby League reformed in 1974.
Its 1968 senior team was the first New Zealand team to play on Norfolk Island. The club has produced 12 Kiwis, including Dennis Williams, John Wilson, Mark Horo, Henry Paul and Shontayn Hape. Today, Te Atatū provides opportunities to play rugby league and shares information about draws, results, news and club activities.
Its programmes and initiatives include junior development, the Waitakere Rugby League Academy and KiwiTag. The club also offers sponsorship information and wellbeing resources, supporting its wider rugby league community
