Roots is an independent open-source organization focused on improving the WordPress developer experience. Since 2011, it has created tools that help professional developers build and manage WordPress sites using modern software development workflows. Its ecosystem covers much of the development stack: Bedrock provides a WordPress boilerplate built with Composer and Git, with easier configuration and an improved folder structure; Sage is a starter theme featuring Laravel Blade components and templates, Tailwind CSS, and block editor support; and Acorn brings Laravel functionality into WordPress projects.
Trellis provides a WordPress LEMP stack with PHP, Composer, and WP-CLI, while Radicle offers an opinionated project starting point. Roots also develops WP Packages, which helps manage plugins and themes with Composer. Alongside its open-source tools, Roots provides professional services and support for WordPress projects, as well as documentation, community resources, and updates for developers.
