Roter Vektor Mathematik is a student-led group that serves as the student and faculty representation for mathematics at the University of Vienna. Guided by grassroots democracy, it invites students to take part in open weekly meetings and help shape its work. The group supports students throughout their studies, offering advice on academic matters and student life in person, by email and by phone during regular consultation hours. Its resources include information for first-year students, study guides, a wiki, archived materials, exam resources and practical tips for navigating university life.

Roter Vektor also organizes orientation activities, weekly first-year student gatherings, social events and community meetups, while providing a shared student space with mathematics books, games and room to connect. Beyond direct student support, its members participate in university committees, contribute to curriculum discussions and represent student interests in faculty appointments and other academic processes. The group also engages with social and political issues, promoting equality and pluralism and supporting projects aligned with its principles.
