Rotlaubkäuzle

Rotlaubkäuzle Eschbach e.V. is a traditional carnival guild based in Eschbach near Freiburg, bringing people together through Fasnet celebrations, events and parades. Founded in 1984, the group grew from a local women’s gymnastics club whose members first joined Eschbach’s carnival procession in handmade costumes in 1980. The guild’s distinctive costume, known as Häß, was created with the local sports club and features yellow and brown felt patches inspired by red-leaved woodland. Hand-carved wooden masks complete the traditional look. The name Rotlaubkäuzle recalls a nearby forest once known as Rotlaub, where eagle owls were found.

For more than 35 years, the guild has shared the festive spirit at events throughout the region. Its activities include carnival processions, gatherings and celebrations for members and visitors. Upcoming events include a large Hästrägertreffen at Alemannenhalle Eschbach on 23 January 2027, with participating guilds, Guggenmusik and a party, as well as the first Wagenmeile on 13 February 2027, organized with Bad Krozinger Brunnenhexen e.V. The website also features news, photographs, videos and contact information.
