Rough Canyon Outfitters

Rough Canyon Outfitters is a family-operated hunting business serving Southwest Colorado, with guided and do-it-yourself options for elk and mule deer hunts in Units 71 and 73. The outfitter offers limited private-land opportunities as well as hunts on public land in the San Juan National Forest, aiming to match each camp and hunt to clients’ needs and budgets.

In Unit 71, the Rico Camp is a rugged backcountry base for mostly fully guided hunts, with wall-tent accommodations and hunting primarily on foot. DIY camps are also available in the Lizard Head Wilderness for archery or muzzleloader seasons. The King Ranch DIY Camp offers access to 160 acres of private property surrounded by remote, non-motorized national forest. It includes a trapper’s cabin with a full kitchen and a wall tent, and accommodates groups of up to four.

In Unit 73, the Cortez Camp provides private-land mule deer hunts across 4,000 acres.
