Route 66 Map is an independent site created by Rick and Genean Martin to document the historic alignments, places, and experiences of America’s “Mother Road. ” Its central feature is an interactive Google map showing many original Route 66 routes, with colors indicating their approximate periods of use: red for alignments from the 1920s and 1930s, brown for the 1930s and 1940s, and green for the 1940s and 1950s. The site notes that routes may be inaccessible, altered, or on private property, and that alignments incorporated into or beneath interstates are not shown.
Visitors can explore map views, download a KML file with a suggested donation, and find guidance on taking the map offline. The Martins also share travel notes, photographs, and information about Route 66 locations, including Ash Fork, Arizona, and Martin’s Motel, built by Rick’s father in the 1950s. Additional offerings include maps, lost-road resources, and books.
The site invites visitors to share corrections, discuss the map, and use it for their own Route 66 adventures
