About Famille Rouvinez

Famille Rouvinez | Martigny is a family-owned business founded in 1947 by Bernard Rouvinez, an independent winemaker. The company was later developed by his two sons, Dominique and Jean-Bernard, both viticulturists and oenologists. The family tradition continues with the involvement of Véronique Besson-Rouvinez, responsible for oenology and quality, Philippe Rouvinez, in charge of commercial activities, and Frédéric Rouvinez, who handles vineyard management and administration.

From the very beginning, Famille Rouvinez | Martigny has focused on producing high-quality wines, particularly the great specialties of the Valais region, such as Arvine and Cornalin. The brand has revolutionized the wine industry with its constant innovation and commitment to excellence. The Rouvinez brothers played a pioneering role in implementing integrated production and environmental sustainability practices.

They have renounced root herbicides, introduced drip irrigation for vineyards, established an adapted flora, and regularly restored dry stone walls. These initiatives not only contribute to biodiversity but also enhance and harmonize the vineyard landscape. The third generation has continued to develop the domaine in this direction, with a part of the vineyard now cultivated following organic farming requirements.

Additionally, the adoption of the Simonit pruning method is expected to prolong the lifespan of each plant. Since the 1980s, the Rouvinez brothers have also been innovators in barrel blending. Their introduction of the Tourmentin in 1983, the first Swiss wine entirely aged in traditional oak barrels, marked a small revolution in the Valais wine industry.

It became the first Valais blended wine including the canton's major grape varieties - Cornalin, Humagne Rouge, and Syrah. Today, the Tourmentin remains the undisputed best-seller of Famille Rouvinez | Martigny. To further enhance the quality of their wines, the family installed large Swiss oak foudres ranging from 4,000 to 9,000 liters in their Colline de Géronde cellar in 2008.

These exceptional foudres allow the finest qualities of the wines to mature for several months. Continuing their passion for excellence, the third generation introduced three outstanding crus in 2011 - the Coeur de Domaine Blanc, Coeur de Domaine Rouge, and Cœur de Domaine Brut. These wines are made from carefully selected small berries from the most beautiful domaines and are meticulously aged for 12 months in Swiss oak foudres.

In celebration of the Maison's 70th anniversary in 2017, Famille Rouvinez | Martigny added four Grands Crus to their range: Sierre Grand Cru for Marsanne, Petite Arvine, and Syrah, and Leytron Grand Cru for Cornalin. These exceptional wines are a collaboration with the talented two-star chef Didier de Courten from the renowned restaurant Le Terminus in Sierre. In 2017, Famille Rouvinez | Martigny also embarked on a unique adventure by introducing L’Echappée, a beer crafted in the purest style of Belgian brewing traditions, in partnership with the Curtius brewery in Liège.

This marked the very first time a beer had escaped from a Valais cellar. From its humble beginnings, Famille Rouvinez | Martigny has continually pushed the boundaries of viticulture, embracing innovation while preserving tradition. With a taste for innovation and a passion for excellence, they have cultivated exceptional wines and products that truly showcase the richness of the Valais region.
