Royal Troon Golf Club is one of Scotland's oldest and most prestigious private golf clubs, founded on 16 March 1878 on the rugged Ayrshire coast in Troon, South Ayrshire. Originally laid out as a modest six-hole course designed by George Strath, the club expanded to 18 holes under Open champion Willie Fernie in 1888, with further refinements by celebrated architects James Braid and Alister MacKenzie in the 1920s. Today, the club operates 45 holes across three courses: the Championship Old Course, the Portland Course, and the Craigend Course.

The Old Course — a par-71 links layout stretching 7,175 yards — has hosted The Open Championship ten times since 1923, producing legends including Arnold Palmer (1962), Tom Watson (1982), and Henrik Stenson (2016). Home to the iconic eighth hole, the Postage Stamp — one of the most famous par-3s in world golf — Royal Troon also hosted The Women's British Open in 2020. In 2016, the club voted to admit women as full members for the first time in its history.
