Roy Carpenter’s Beach is a family-oriented summer cottage community on the south coast of Rhode Island, located off Cards Pond Road in Matunuck. Its 377 individually owned cottages are arranged along numbered rows near a path leading to the ocean. Many owners spend the summer at the beach, and cottages are often passed down through generations. To preserve the community atmosphere, cottage rentals are not permitted, and visitors may not bring their own pets onto the property.

The community’s history began after the 1938 hurricane, when Roy Carpenter opened the land for daily parking and later welcomed visitors staying in trailers and tents. On October 29, 2025, the Roy Carpenter’s Beach Association purchased the land on behalf of the cottage-owner community.

The property includes a quarter-mile stretch of Atlantic shoreline, where visitors can swim, sunbathe, and enjoy views of Block Island and Point Judith. Seasonal lifeguards are provided when available. Roy Carpenter’s Beach also offers beach and property management services and operates an on-site store during the beach season.
