Royer Labs is an American microphone manufacturer dedicated to the design and craft of ribbon microphones. Based in Burbank, California, the company hand-builds its microphones in the USA and serves recording engineers and musicians working in studios and on stage. Its range includes mono and stereo models, as well as active and vacuum-tube designs. Featured products include the R-121 studio microphone, the R-10 for studio and live use, the SF-2 active ribbon microphone, the SF-24V vacuum-tube stereo microphone, and matched pairs from the R-12 line.
Royer introduced the R-121 in 1998, helping bring ribbon microphones back into widespread use among recording engineers. Later innovations included the SF-12 stereo microphone and the R-122, described by the company as the first phantom-powered ribbon microphone. Royer microphones have received five TEC Awards, and the company was awarded the Technical Grammy in 2013 for its contribution to music recording. Royer also offers an audio and video library featuring real-session recordings, along with dealer support, product registration, warranty and repair services, and educational resources.
