Discovery Point is a registered charity called Dundee Heritage Trust, that was formed in 1985. They are dedicated to preserving and portraying Dundee's historical past. As an independent charity in Scotland, Discovery Point operates two five-star rated visitor attractions: Discovery Point and Verdant Works.

They are responsible for the conservation of RRS Discovery, one of the world's most important ships. They also have two Recognized Collections of National Significance, relating to polar exploration and the Dundee textile industry. Discovery Point offers a range of high-quality learning activities, attracting over 8,000 school children and 1,500 members of the local community every year.

They communicate research on their collections through exhibitions, learning programs, events, workshops, online databases, and talks. With a diverse program of temporary exhibitions, Discovery Point constantly strives to develop and enhance its galleries and interpretation to provide a stimulating and quality experience for visitors. Aside from providing employment for a staff of 59 and volunteering opportunities for more than 30 people, Discovery Point generates an estimated £3.

5 million in annual economic benefit to the local area. They receive an annual grant from Dundee City Council and generate the remaining 98% of their running costs through commercial activities such as ticket sales, conferences and functions, catering and retailing, as well as fundraising initiatives. In addition to their commitment to preserving history, Discovery Point is also dedicated to protecting the environment.

In 2018, they received their first Green Tourism award at Discovery Point for achieving Silver status for over half a decade. They have now created their first-ever Sustainability Strategy to guide them in their journey towards sustainability. Their goals include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, responsible use of natural resources, evidence-based decision-making, transparency in progress reporting, and putting people at the heart of their efforts.
