About Ruleshift
Ruleshift is an authoritative multiplayer state service for game developers who need consistent, recoverable room state without building their own distributed ordering and persistence systems. It accepts authenticated player commands defined with Protocol Buffers, applies them sequentially through game-specific stateless modules, saves the resulting state, and broadcasts a coherent stream of room revisions. Clients send intent rather than state, helping keep the room’s ordered history as the source of truth.
The platform provides bounded command queues, transactional persistence, snapshots and replay for recovery, and recipient-specific public, private, or full data projections. Developers define their own game state, commands, and projections, while Ruleshift manages ordering and persistence. Game rules can be packaged as gRPC/Protocol Buffers OCI modules and updated independently of the core service; rooms remain pinned to an exact module version. Ruleshift also includes a Go SDK for creating modules, publishing versions, checking validation status, and creating rooms. Operational features include Prometheus metrics, structured logs, dashboards, per-tenant namespaces and quotas, default-deny networking, and non-root module containers.
