About Ruqi Lab
Ruqi Lab is a nonprofit quantum computing research organization based in Pittsburgh, founded in 2019. It builds fault-tolerant quantum machines and open tools, with the aim of making quantum technology a public resource rather than a private advantage. Its research spans four programs: fault tolerance and architecture, quantum simulation for the energy transition, sensing for public infrastructure, and shared resources for the quantum commons.
The lab develops quantum codes, decoders, modular architectures, software, and repairable sensing instruments. Its work also explores chemistry and battery applications, alongside open standards, benchmarks, curricula, and procurement guidance. Ruqi Lab emphasizes reproducibility, publishing code, data, calibration records, and negative results so other researchers can inspect and rebuild its work.
Beyond research, the organization offers free quantum education curricula, teacher fellowships, public lab events, school visits, and community repair activities. Its Policy Studio advises public agencies on procurement approaches designed to avoid vendor lock-in. Ruqi Lab is supported by foundations, public grants, and individual donors, and states that it does not use paywalls or exclusive licenses.
