About Rural Studio
Rural Studio is an off-campus design-build program affiliated with Auburn University's School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture. With a focus on sustainable and healthy rural living, their core mission is to educate students and conduct research on housing and community systems. By fostering the development of local architects who are global citizens, Rural Studio aims to create thriving communities.
Their Front Porch Initiative aims to enhance underserved rural communities by creating beautiful, well-designed, and affordable homes. So far, Rural Studio has completed over 200 projects and provided hands-on educational experiences to over 1,200 students in the Black Belt region. Through a supportive culture that promotes problem solving and collaboration, students work alongside local residents, finding innovative solutions together.
