The Swiss Working Group for Mountain Regions (SAB) is an association representing the interests of Switzerland’s mountain areas and rural communities. It works to support their sustainable development through political advocacy, practical projects, and collaboration with regional and national partners. Its policy work covers areas including regional development, agriculture, forestry, tourism, housing, transport, energy, digitalisation, climate, and spatial planning.
SAB also provides services and advice to regions and municipalities, including support for regional development, participatory processes, cooperation projects, and digital initiatives. Its activities include Smart Villages programmes, youth-friendly mountain villages, international cooperation, and projects addressing topics such as mountain agriculture, forestry, mobility, and tourism. Through technical services, SAB offers construction advice and supports bergversetzer, an initiative connected with building and renovation in mountain communities.
The organisation also facilitates conferences, events, dialogue platforms, and knowledge-sharing, and publishes the Montagna magazine, policy positions, fact sheets, reports, and other documents. Overall, SAB works with communities and stakeholders to strengthen living conditions and economic prospects in mountain and rural regions
