About Safari Simbaz
Safari Simbaz is a dynamic non-profit organization founded in 1999 by David Kinjah, Africa's first black professional cyclist. Based in Kikuyu, Kenya, its mission is to empower young Kenyans through education, sports, and life skills, aiming to create a brighter future for a population where 40% are under the age of 15. The name "Safari Simbaz" translates to "Lionβs Journey" in Kiswahili, symbolizing the courage and determination the organization instills in youth.
Through various programs, Safari Simbaz offers educational opportunities, cycling training, and personal development aimed at reducing poverty and crime in underserved communities. It is expanding its impact with the construction of the 'Chris Froome Academy' in Mweiga, named after the renowned cyclist who credits his success to the support of Kinjah and the Simbaz community. By fostering discipline, teamwork, and resilience, Safari Simbaz prepares the next generation to achieve financial independence and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
