Safari Simbaz is a non-profit cycling initiative in Kenya that uses sport and education to create opportunities for young people and build sustainable cycling communities in Africa. Founded by cyclist David Kinjah, the initiative began with a vision, a few bicycles and children riding near Nairobi. The Safari Simbaz Trust was officially registered in 2008.
Its programs train youth in mountain biking, road cycling and bicycle mechanics, alongside life skills, leadership and teamwork. Participants can develop pathways toward becoming athletes, instructors, entrepreneurs or community leaders. Since 1998, Safari Simbaz has trained more than 400 children, and over 20 alumni now run their own businesses. The organization also highlights its connection to professional cycling through the mentorship of Chris Froome, a Grand Tour winner.
Safari Simbaz offers guided bicycle experiences in Kenya through its team, including day rides near Nairobi and multi-day journeys from the capital toward the coast. Through its activities, stories and community support, the organization promotes cycling as a means of learning, empowerment and lasting opportunity.
