Safeguard Defenders (SD) is a Pan-Asian human rights NGO that is dedicated to protecting and promoting human rights, the rule of law, and civil society in some of the most hostile environments in Asia. Founded in 2016, SD undertakes local field activities and provides support to enhance the ability of local civil society and human rights defenders in their mission to protect basic rights. SD utilizes its extensive field network to identify emerging trends, study, expose, and respond to these developments, often before the wider media and governments become aware of them.

They release cutting-edge research and publications that shed light on critical issues. Currently, Safeguard Defenders is actively running numerous programs in target countries, particularly China and Vietnam. They collaborate with local partners, including lawyers, independent media organizations, and civil society organizations, who are engaged in promoting and protecting human rights and the rule of law.

To ensure safety, the staff and partners are kept anonymous, highlighting the severity of the human rights situation in these targeted countries.
