Safe Homes for Children

Safe Homes for Children is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to improve the safety and quality of life of children in their own homes in Guatemala’s Highlands. It serves at-risk Mayan communities facing extreme poverty, food insecurity, limited access to health care, and barriers to education. Its mission is to create lasting, multigenerational change by nourishing children’s bodies and minds and strengthening their home environments.

The organization offers nutritional support for mothers and young children, medical and dental programs, scholarships that help students continue their education beyond primary school, and after-school activities with tutoring and meals. Construction projects also help improve living conditions. Safe Homes for Children welcomes volunteers and matches their skills with community needs. It supports volunteer visits with trip planning, transportation, accommodation, meals, and safe drinking water, while offering opportunities to experience local culture and the Guatemalan Highlands. Donations support its charitable programs and are tax-deductible. Through community initiatives and enriching volunteer experiences, Safe Homes for Children works to give children and families greater opportunity and support.
