Safetyhear™ Ltd is a family-owned business based in New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty, created after founder Terry Johnson experienced the stress of losing a hearing aid. The company makes a practical safety device for behind-the-ear (BTE) and receiver-in-ear (RIC) hearing aids, designed to help keep them attached during everyday use, exercise, sport, and travel. If a hearing aid becomes dislodged, the device is intended to make it easier to return it to the ear rather than lose or damage it.

Made from 100% stainless steel, the Safetyhear device is described as hypoallergenic, rust-resistant, durable, and resistant to tarnishing and scratching. It attaches using an anchor fitted to an ear-piercing stud, so an ear piercing is required. Two anchor styles are offered: round and hexagonal. The device is suitable for children and adults, and the company offers replacement devices to children free of charge until age 16.
