Sanyu Africa Research Institute (SAfRI) is a local indigenous Non-Government Organization based in Mbale City, Uganda. Our vision is to create A World in which all women and children can enjoy high-quality health care. We strive to achieve this through our mission of improving maternal, newborn, and child health, particularly among the underprivileged, by conducting high-quality, collaborative clinical research.

We focus on utilizing low-cost, innovative technologies to develop solutions. At SAfRI, we work closely with local healthcare providers and the government to strengthen research capacity and promote inspiring models of clinical practice. Our current projects include the BabyGel study, which examines the impact of improving hand hygiene in rural Ugandan households, and the BabySaver, which provides specialist support to newborns within minutes of their birth.

Additionally, our Maternal and Newborn Health Priority Setting Partnership in Uganda (MNHPSP) brings together mothers, caregivers, families, and birth attendants to prioritize future research in maternal and neonatal health.
