About Sagan Friant
The RISK Lab is an emerging infectious disease research laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University, led by principal investigator Sagan Friant, PhD. Based in the Department of Anthropology and affiliated with the Huck Institutes for the Life Sciences, the lab also connects with the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics and interdisciplinary graduate programs in Ecology and Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Biosciences. Its name reflects an interest in anthropology, public health linkages, and socioecological systems.
The lab’s work is organized around projects in spillover hunting and health, primate disease ecology, and One Health. These areas bring together the study of infectious disease, human and animal health, and ecological contexts. The website presents project information alongside details about lab members, collaborators, publications, news, events, media, and current courses. It also invites prospective participants to join the lab and provides a contact option. Through its research and academic connections, the RISK Lab offers a university-based setting for exploring emerging infectious diseases across relevant social, biological, and environmental themes.
