About South African History Online
South African History Online (SAHO) is the largest and most comprehensive online website dedicated to South African and African history and culture. Established in 1998 and registered as a not-for-profit organization in 2000, SAHO has become an essential resource in the field of higher education, attracting over 6 million visitors annually. SAHO's mission is to provide an unbiased and critical understanding of the past, addressing the historically biased representation of South Africa and the continent in educational and cultural institutions.
With partnerships with universities, schools, and community-based history projects, SAHO offers a wide range of products and services. These include a vast archive of over 50,000 documents, videos, and images, a timeline of historical events, a comprehensive collection of 7,000 biographies, the Politics and Governance hub, the Culture and Society section, an Online Classroom for teachers and students, and ongoing research projects.
