About Imperial School of Public Health
The Small Area Health Statistics Unit (SAHSU) is a research unit within Imperial College London’s Faculty of Medicine, based in the School of Public Health. Its work focuses on assessing how environmental factors may affect population health, using routinely collected health and population data analysed at small-area level. SAHSU maintains a wide range of health and environmental datasets and develops spatial statistical methods to investigate potential links between exposures and health outcomes.
The unit brings together expertise in epidemiology, statistics, database management, software development and exposure assessment. Its research covers areas including air pollution, noise, waste, electromagnetic fields, urban environments and the built environment. SAHSU also undertakes research projects and provides information for the public about the data it holds and how those data are used. Its activities include work with national data providers, public participation and involvement, and the Rapid Inquiry Facility. Through research, publications and public information, SAHSU supports the study of environmental influences on health. The unit is located at Imperial’s White City Campus in London.
