彩輝光 (Saikiko) is a lacquer-art brand created by artist Kenji Omachi, who combines traditional Japanese craft techniques with contemporary materials and technology. Its signature method adapts raden, or mother-of-pearl inlay, using finely divided Kyoto Opal fragments arranged in mosaic-like designs. Layers of lacquer are applied and polished to reveal the opal’s distinctive play of color, creating original works that unite inherited Kyoto craftsmanship with new forms of expression.
The collection includes lacquerware and decorative objects such as sake vessels, boxes, bowls, rings boxes, and piano finishes. Saikiko also appears on camera accessories, including grips and hot-shoe covers, and in works that bring photography and lacquer art together. Some pieces use 3D-printed resin forms as a base, finished with traditional lacquer techniques. The brand’s broader creative approach explores the meeting of tradition and innovation, natural and engineered materials, and craft and design. Through exhibitions, product presentations, and workshops, Omachi shares the process and possibilities of Japanese lacquer art. Saikiko products are available through the brand’s official online store.
