Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) is the flagship unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Government of India undertaking. It is a ten-time winner of the Prime Minister’s Trophy for Best Integrated Steel Plant in the country. BSP is located in Bhilai, 40 kilometers west of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.

The plant produces a wide range of products, including high-strength rails, heavy structurals, wide and heavy steel plates, merchant products, and wire rods of different grades. BSP holds the unique distinction of producing the cleanest rail in the world. The plant is set to embrace new state-of-the-art technologies for improved productivity, yield, and quality as part of its Corporate Plan 2012.

The goal is to become a 7. 5 MT hot metal plant by 2012 and achieve international benchmarks in operational parameters. BSP is committed to maintaining high standards in economic, environmental, and social performance and holds certifications such as ISO 9001:2000 for quality management, ISO:14001 for environmental management, SA:8000 for social accountability, and OHSAS-18001 for occupational health and safety.
