Sal’s Surf School is a community-focused surf school based at Umina Beach on Australia’s Central Coast, about an hour and a half north of Sydney and south of Newcastle. Owner, operator and head coach Sal has lived locally throughout her life and brings experience as a full-time physical education and health teacher to the programs she has developed. The school helps children and adults learn to surf in a fun, social and supportive setting, with an emphasis on building confidence and encouraging lifelong physical activity.
Offerings include eight-week surf programs, casual group and private lessons, children’s and teens’ sessions, school-holiday surf camps, birthday parties and private groups. For those seeking longer adventures, Sal’s also runs surf day trips from Sydney and Newcastle, Umina Beach camps, weekend trips to destinations including Crescent Head, Scott’s Head and Currarong, and a North and Mid Coast road trip. Board and wetsuit hire are available as well.
Lessons include guidance on beach safety, surf etiquette and environmental responsibility.
