The Saltmarsh App is an innovative tool developed by the Universities of St Andrews and Bangor, designed to enhance research on coastal biodiversity and ecosystem services. Part of the Coastal Biodiversity and Ecosystem Service Sustainability (CBESS) project, the app serves as a platform for users to submit valuable data that informs studies on the role of salt marshes and their environmental benefits. CBESS, backed by the UK’s Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), emphasizes the significance of ecosystems in providing essential services like natural flood protection and biodiversity sustenance.
The Saltmarsh App not only aids researchers but also invites participation from the public, fostering community engagement in environmental conservation. By harnessing user contributions, the app aims to better understand and manage coastal landscapes. Users are encouraged to get involved and contribute to important research that supports ecological health and sustainability in UK estuaries
