About The Salt Shed
The Salt Shed, located in Chicago, IL, is a brand that has transformed the iconic Morton Salt complex into a multi-purpose creative hub with music at its core. While the Salt Shed itself opened its gates in 2022, the Morton Salt building has been a fixture in Chicago for nearly a century. Initially known as the Elston Dock, the facility housed local salt, packaging, and distribution operations.
The stability and iconic nature of the building made it a recognizable landmark for anyone driving into the city. When operations ceased in 2015, the space became available for redevelopment. 16 on Center and Blue Star Properties, along with R2 and Sky Deck, came together to give new life to this landmark.
The transformation process, which sought to maintain the building's architectural integrity, has been a true labor of love. Today, the Salt Shed stands as a beautiful venue, still carrying the Morton Salt logo, ready to welcome visitors to the vibrant city of Chicago.
