SAMBI, short for “Samtal med bilder” (“Conversations with Pictures”), is a Swedish initiative that promotes communication, participation, and inclusion through visual support. Its SAMBI method was developed together with people who have difficulty communicating and their family members. The resource is designed to inspire practical ways to make everyday conversations more accessible and inviting.
SAMBI’s website offers guidance on what picture support is, why it can help, and how to use it in different communication situations. Visitors can explore communication tips, checklists, examples of communication aids and visual supports, as well as further reading, links, lectures, and short films with fact sheets. These materials provide ideas for adapting communication to people’s needs and encouraging them to express themselves in new ways.
SAMBI also shares a printable sign indicating that picture-supported communication is welcome. Developed with input from people who have difficulty communicating, the sign is intended for places such as pharmacies, shops, and cafés, and may be used freely.
