Samen Meten is a citizen-science platform run by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), part of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. Its purpose is to support people interested in the quality of their local environment, particularly air, water and noise. The platform helps visitors learn about environmental measurement and encourages them to take part by gathering data in their own neighbourhood.
Samen Meten provides information for people who want to start measuring, including guidance on air and noise monitoring, and showcases initiatives led by residents, municipalities and other organizations, as well as schools. Its online data portal lets users explore measurement locations and results in their area, with a separate portal for fireworks-related measurements. The site also shares news, offers a newsletter and forum, and promotes opportunities to connect with the citizen-science community. Through these resources, Samen Meten brings together residents and institutions to contribute to understanding environmental conditions and to make local measurements more accessible.
