Looking to register your horse or record its movement in Queensland? The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries oversees the registration process and movement record requirements under the Biosecurity Act 2014. All horse owners are required to manage biosecurity risks, and registration is essential for traceability in the event of a disease outbreak or contamination. If you own or keep horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and certain bird species, or have bee hives, you must register as a biosecurity entity and obtain a property identification code (PIC).
Registrations are valid for three years and must be renewed if you continue to keep horses. Additionally, you are required to create a movement record each time a horse leaves a property, capturing details such as the name and address of the sender and receiver, date of movement, and horse description. The Act also allows for various formats to create movement records, making the process more flexible and accessible.
