The South African Military History Society, also known as Die Suid-Afrikaanse Krygshistoriese Vereniging, was established in 1966 in Johannesburg. This society was founded by a group of amateur historians with a passion for studying and promoting the field of military history. With around 500 members, the society is divided into branches located in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, and the Eastern Cape (Port Elizabeth), and has a global reach with members worldwide.
The society engages in various activities such as publishing research in the bi-annual Military History Journal, hosting monthly lectures in different branches, distributing monthly newsletters, organizing day and weekend visits to battlefields, and more. Membership is open to anyone interested in studying military history or contributing to the society's activities.
