San Diego Bird Alliance

San Diego Bird Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting birds, wildlife, and habitats through science, education, advocacy, and restoration. Serving the San Diego region, it works on conservation initiatives for threatened species and places, including the California Least Tern, Light-footed Ridgway’s Rail, Mission Bay wetlands, and the San Diego River mouth. Its programs also include the California Bluebird Recovery Program and native seed libraries that support birds and pollinators.

The Alliance offers educational resources and activities, conservation advocacy programs, and opportunities to take action on issues such as bird-safe lighting and habitat protection. Community members can participate through volunteer habitat restoration, bird counts, local outings, workshops, and events such as the San Diego Bird Festival. The organization also offers private birding experiences and membership activities.

Visitors can explore Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary, a 785-acre property in Lakeside with birding opportunities and hiking trails, and Anstine Nature Preserve, where coastal sage scrub habitat supports wildlife and conservation education. Members, donors, and volunteers help advance the Alliance’s work across the region.
