About Sara Khan
Sara Khan is a British human rights activist, author, commentator and leading expert on counter-extremism, societal resilience and social cohesion. Her work focuses on addressing extremism and radicalisation while protecting human rights and strengthening communities. In 2018, she became Britain’s first Counter-Extremism Commissioner, leading the independent Commission for Countering Extremism. She has also advised three Home Secretaries and was appointed by the Prime Minister in 2021 as the government’s Independent Adviser for Social Cohesion and Resilience.
Khan co-founded Inspire, a women-led counter-extremism organisation, in 2008. Over ten years, she worked with communities, schools and public bodies, challenging extremist propaganda and organisations. Her work has been recognised with awards and distinctions, and she was awarded a DBE in the 2022 New Year Honours.
