Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Calabria (SASC) is the regional service of Italy’s National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS). Its volunteer technical and medical teams respond to emergencies in mountainous and otherwise inaccessible terrain across Calabria, including cliffs, ravines, canyons and caves. They also search for missing people, deploy search-and-rescue dog units, provide medical assistance, and support major emergency operations.
The service offers technical training and public guidance on requesting help, including how to contact emergency services and what information to provide. Operations are coordinated through Italy’s 112 emergency service, which can alert SASC around the clock. Four operational stations, organized into Northern and Southern delegations, cover the region’s 404 municipalities.
SASC also promotes mountain safety through exercises, events and information resources, and provides details about its stations and activities online. As a volunteer organization, it relies on public contributions and donations to support equipment, training, vehicles and rescue operations.
