Satakunnan arkeologinen seura

Satakunnan arkeologinen seura (Satakunta Archaeological Society) is a regional association founded on 5 February 2023 by archaeologists working in Satakunta and people interested in archaeology. Its members share a curiosity about the past, and the society supports both archaeological research and public engagement with the region’s heritage. It organizes archaeological excavations open to the public, lectures, guided visits to ancient sites, excursions and other events throughout the year. Some activities are also open to non-members. Members receive updates on research findings and invitations to the society’s activities, while their participation helps support archaeological research.

The society highlights investigations at several sites in Satakunta. At Hiittenharju in Harjavalta, excavations begun in 2022 have explored a Stone Age settlement with dwelling depressions dating back about 5,000 years. Research at Kirkkokangas in Pori began in 2021 at a settlement where a community practiced seal hunting and fishing around 4,000 years ago. In Rauma, the society began excavating near Syväalho in 2024, where Bronze Age graves and a possible settlement are located.
