About Satemwa
Satemwa Tea & Coffee is a family-owned tea and coffee estate situated in the south of Malawi, Africa. Committed to sustainability, they prioritize investing in the local community, education, health, gender equity, and climate action. Their dedication to the United Nations' sustainable development goals can be seen in their various initiatives.
In terms of health and wellbeing, Satemwa operates four clinics and an ambulance, providing healthcare services and working with the government to offer free medical support. They also employ health surveillance assistants who educate communities on hygiene and waste disposal. Satemwa values quality education and supports a primary school for over 1,000 children.
Through the funds generated from sales to FAIRTRADE buyers, they provide scholarships to around 120 kids. They also collaborate with Rare Charity to help talented but underprivileged young adults pursue tertiary education. Promoting gender equity is another important aspect for Satemwa.
They have a longstanding commitment to empowering women within their organization. As agriculturalists deeply affected by climate change, Satemwa takes climate action seriously. They invest in research for improved varieties, reforest the land, encourage energy-efficient practices, and promote fruit forests for educational and recreational purposes.
Satemwa believes in the power of partnerships to leverage their resources. They have collaborated with NGOs, their government, and ethical buyers to address various challenges and create positive change. By purchasing their tea and coffee, you can support their vision and contribute to their impactful work.
