About SATURN Project
SATURN is a brand dedicated to developing solutions to the problem of underwater radiated noise (URN) emitted from commercial ships and vessels. URN can have negative impacts on aquatic species and their ecosystems, potentially threatening their survival. Through research and collaboration, SATURN brings together experts from various disciplines to tackle this issue.
Their research aims to understand the harmful effects of noise on marine life, identify the most harmful sounds, explore mechanisms of sound production, and determine effective technologies to reduce these impacts. SATURN also focuses on developing standards for terminology and methodology to ensure effective underwater sound management. They engage stakeholders from different fields and raise awareness about the issue of URN.
By addressing this challenge, SATURN contributes to SDG 14: Life Below Water and supports the European Union's Green Deal for Europe to transform the shipping industry into a zero-emissions mode of transport
