About Sauvons le Rhône
Sauvons le Rhône is a public information platform presenting efforts to restore the Rhône’s natural environments at Miribel-Jonage. Its featured project focuses on the lône de Jonage, a former river branch that had been dry for several decades. Since 2019, the site has documented experiments to restore its connection to water and support wetland habitats, biodiversity, and groundwater levels.
The second phase, conducted from October 2024 to autumn 2025, tested water flows intended to create high-quality natural environments while protecting drinking water drawn from the Vernes water intake. Enhanced technical and scientific monitoring was used to assess the results and address key questions about the project. Updates, videos, news, and information about public events help visitors follow the work and its outcomes, including the return of aquatic plants, frogs, and dragonflies.
The project is led by Symalim, owner of Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage, in close partnership with Eau du Grand Lyon and the Regional Health Agency. Funding comes from the Rhône Mediterranean and Corsica Water Agency and EDF.
